Derek Shaw

Derek worked for a London Council as a young apprentice and climbed the ranks to be their surveyor which involved, amongst other things, investigating for dampness, timber rots and woodworm

Shortly after

On the back of this he was offered a job with a local preservation firm which is where he began to learn his craft in more detail.  As with many unregulated damp and timber companies, this folded and Derek decided to start his own company.

 Setting up Shaw Preservations

Derek decided that if he was going to put his name to a Company, then he wanted to “do things right” and for the company to be the best it could be.  His company – Shaw Preservations started trading and he  obtained his surveyor qualifications through the BWPDA and began training his staff to the highest possible level.

 Time to get official

After trading for a few years, Derek decided he should register Shaw Preservations as a limited company.  The rest as they say is history!

Today

Our Present

Today, we have the same ethos as when the company was founded;   train the workforce to the highest possible standard, (100% of our surveyors are qualified), treat them well and in return the company will be rewarded with top workmanship,  hard work, honesty and loyalty. Our low turnaround of staff ensures high levels of expertise and in the event of any unforeseen problems arising on site, are dealt with quickly and efficiently.   What more could a Company, or indeed the customer want? Eventually, the BWPDA morphed into the PCA adopting even stricter standards and unlike most other trade bodies, now ensures all member companies undergo bi-annual inspections at the place of work.

This ensures that our knowledge, procedures, health & safety, and standards of practice are maintained to the highest level. In line with our company philosophy, all our operatives and surveyors are CRB checked to provide complete peace of mind when visiting your property.  They also attend regular training courses which ensure that changes within the industry and current legislation is updated.

Our Team

What about the office staff? Unlike most other companies, we also train our office staff. They have attended courses on identifying and controlling dampness, timber infestation and health and Safety practices. This ensures that if you ring the office, the correct advice can be given immediately. It is because of our fantastic staff and very high standards that we have an unrivalled reputation within the remedial industry.
