Controlling Condensation
The easiest way to insulate properties is to stop
heat escaping. Unfortunately, this also stops moisture vapour escaping,
(about 2 gallons per day for the average house) leading to condensation
on cold surfaces.
Condensation is formed by warm air accepting moisture
from within the dwelling, often by washing, cooking, clothes drying,
etc. The higher the air temperature, the more moisture the air will
hold. When the moist air is in contact with cold surfaces and the
temperature drops, the moisture is released onto the colder surfaces
ie, windows, room corners etc.
The effects of condensation are usually recognisable
as black mould. Excessive moisture runs down the windows particularly
to kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms often causing decay to glazing
bars and window sills.
Shaw Preservations can install a ventilation
unit to control this type of dampness
The main benefits are:
- Cures condensation – wet windows, mould
growth mildew and mustiness
- Far more effective than dehumidifiers
- One units deals with a whole home
- Negligible running costs
- Whisper quiet
- Totally automatic – no containers
to empty.
- Provides all year round ventilation.
- Improves temperature distribution from conventional
radiators
- Virtually maintenance free.
